On Tuesday the 26th of January, Woodford Golf Club held an Australia Day Charity Ambrose raising funds for Abbigail Sweeper. Thank you to the 202 players who partook in the Charity Day which consisted of a greenkeeper revenge challenge course, beat the golf professional, thong throwing as well as over $1300 worth of donated goods used for daily prizes and multidraw raffles. Also thank you to Richard, Ron and Anna for organising the day. Although the numbers aren’t finalised, the club has raised approximately $5500-$6000 which will assist in covering medical costs for Abbie.
Abbie is grandaughter to long time Woodford Golf Club member Pam Sweeper. In July 2019, Abbie was at her local pony club and while competing in an event, Abbie fell from her horse and landed on her head. This caused severe spinal cord (broken C1 & C2) and brain damage resulting in her being a tetraplegic (no feeling from the neck down). Her recovery is ongoing, spending almost 12 months in PICU and will require 24 hour care under two nurses for the rest of her life.
